5 things to do in Leeds this spring/summer

With the worst of winter hopefully behind us, we can start to look forward to enjoying the warmer days of spring and summer. If you like to forward plan, our fun ideas for different activities to do in and around Leeds this spring and summer might be just the inspiration you are looking for!

1. Delve into the depths of warfare at Leeds Royal Armouries

A fun-packed day is guaranteed when you visit the Royal Armouries. Set across five floors, you can learn all about warfare from around the world and through time. Keep an eye out for special exhibitions and events too. For example, throughout February half-term you can come along and release your inner superhero. Or pay a visit in May and enjoy the thrill and spectacle of their International jousting competition.

2. Take to the water and ride in a Leeds Dock Water Taxi

Fancy seeing Leeds from a different perspective. Then why not take a trip on a Leeds Dock water taxi. The water taxi runs between Leeds Dock and Granary Wharf and takes approximately 20 minutes.  Enjoy experiencing the city in a different way, without the hustle and bustle!

3. Enjoy a relaxing stroll around Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Situated only 18 miles from Leeds, why not let off steam and enjoy the stunning beauty of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park? Not only can you enjoy magnificent views as you walk around in the park’s 500 acres, but you can also get up close to giant sculptures by renowned artists such as Damien Hirst and Henry Moore. If the sun’s shining, make the most of it and pack a picnic, there’s plenty of space to find that ideal spot.  A visit to the sculpture park won’t break the bank either, as all you must pay for is parking!

4. Support a good cause and have a fun day out at The Donkey Sanctuary

Get that feel-good factor and spend a few hours getting close to the donkeys at the Leeds Donkey Sanctuary. Spend time watching these gentle animals graze in their paddocks. If you are lucky, they may come up to you for a scratch! Make time to talk to the staff and find out about the hard work they do.

If you want a closer experience, why not consider booking a place on one of their I Love Donkeys days? Spend one or two hours grooming and getting to know the herd. Have a photo taken, and take a lovely countryside walk with the donkeys. You get a goody bag and certificate to take home too!

5. Have a hoot and follow the Leeds Owl Trail

If you’re looking for a fun way to explore Leeds, then the Leeds Owl Trail could literally be right up your street! The Owl Trail will take you on a fun and informative journey through history. Be an owl detective and keep your eyes peeled as you wander around the city. 25 owls are waiting to be spotted, but be warned, they’re not in the most obvious of places.
